Three Local Mayors to Compete in Soybean Shopping Spree

ALEDO – The Mercer County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee is sponsoring a Soybean Shopping Spree with the Aledo, Joy, and Viola Mayors on Monday, July 14th at 6:00 p.m. at Mercer Market in Aledo. The mayors will have 10 minutes to race around the grocery store collecting as many items containing soy as possible. All items collected will be donated to the Churches of Mercer County Food pantry. Some surprising foods that contain soy are Miracle Whip, Heinz tartar sauce, Pop-tarts, Golden Grahams Cereal, Beef Taco Hamburger Helper, Instant pudding, Milky Way bars, Pop-Secret popcorn, and Ragu spaghetti sauce. The Mayor who has the widest variety of items containing soy will win a prize.

Please come and cover the Shopping Spree. You’ll have the opportunity to interview the Mayors and Women’s Committee members and get a glimpse of the many items that contain soy. We are educating consumers and giving back to the community so please give publicity to this fun event!
