University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists invite you to a bus trip to the International Crane Foundation and the Aldo Leopold Center August 23
The University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists invite you to join them on a bus trip to Baraboo, Wisconsin to celebrate the life and legacy of conservationist Aldo Leopold. It will take place on Saturday August 23rd and will include a private group tour of Aldo’s Shack and Farm as well as a visit to the International Crane Foundation Headquarters.
You will visit the Leopold Center, a LEED platinum certified green building, to learn how Aldo Leopold’s ideas continue to inform and inspire us today. You’ll learn about the history and philosophy of Aldo Leopold, walk through the landscapes that provided the inspiration for A Sand County Almanac, and see the famous Shack that was the center of one of our nation’s earliest attempts at land restoration. Learn about how energy efficient design, alternative energy technologies, and use of local materials earned the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center the rating of “greenest building in the world.”
At the International Crane Foundation World Headquarters, you will tour the 225 acre site, home to 100 cranes, a research library, and four miles of nature trails where you will observe and learn about the world’s 15 crane species including the endangered Whopping Crane! Guides will share information about crane biology, current threats to crane survival, conservation methods and the ICF’s work and initiatives.
The trip ends with a relaxing dinner overlooking the river in Spring Green, WI. Enjoy a variety of pizzas (included) and purchase your own beverages at the bar.
