Putnam Announces Annual Monarch Butterfly Workshop

DAVENPORT, Iowa (August 20, 2014) – The Putnam Museum and Science center announced today plans for the Annual Monarch Butterfly Workshop occurring Saturday August 23rd. The family favorite event includes butterfly themed crafts, caterpillars and special workshops and presentations for the whole family. Register early; this workshop fills up fast!

Caterpillar Care Workshops will be 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m. Butterfly crafts will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A special slide show presentation by Bob Motz will be at 12:15 p.m. Cost is $3 per person which includes the workshop, crafts and presentation. An additional fee of $3 per caterpillar is also required. Workshop attendees should bring a clear glass container with a lid.

We will also be showing the film Flight of the Butterflies 3D at 11:15 AM and 1:45 PM in our National Geographic Giant Screen Theater. According to the movie’s website, “Flight of the Butterflies in 3D is an interconnected scientific adventure story that spans not only thousands of miles, but generations. It’s about the remarkable Monarch butterfly migration, the most incredible migration on Earth, and the determined scientist who spent 40 years trying to discover exactly where the butterflies mysteriously disappeared when they flew south for winter.”

Retro Reel Deal

It’s the last few weeks of our Retro Reel Series showing on our National Geographic Giant Screen Theater! Below is a listing of the remaining throwback titles playing soon:

· The Matrix (8/22 @ 7PM, 8/23 @ 7PM) - A computer hacker learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers.

· Stand by Me (8/29 @ 9:30PM, 8/30 @ 7PM) - After the death of a friend, a writer recounts a boyhood journey to find the body of a missing boy.
