Murder Suspect Caught in Reynolds

Gary M. Fortune, the suspect in the stabbing murder of a Davenport couple Monday.

Tuesday, Sept. 9, the Mercer County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an intruder at a vacant home located at 2222 170th Ave., Reynolds.

Upon arrival, Deputies learned that the home owners were attempting to sell the home and the home was sitting vacant. The home owners had went to check on the residence and discovered a subject hiding in the house which was unoccupied. Shortly after Deputies secured the residence and property, a fire to a shed was called in at 2231 170th Ave. Reynolds, located across the street to the Southeast. Subsequent investigation into both crimes revealed the suspect was possibly a homicide suspect out of Davenport, Iowa.

The suspect was found to be Gary M. Fortune who was wanted on charges out of Davenport, Iowa in relation to a homicide.

Mr. Fortune was located later at Jeronimo's tavern in Reynolds by Mercer County Deputies, and the Illinois State Police. Mr. Fortune was taken into custody without incident and turned over to the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office.

The Mercer County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Illinois State Police, the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office, Aledo Police Dept., Keithsburg Police Dept., New Boston Police Dept., Illinois Fire Marshall's Office, and the Reynolds Fire Dept.
