What: Augustana College’s Upper Mississippi Center and River Action are hosting an Invasive species Removal event with the help of Living Lands and Waters at Green Valley Nature Preserve and Black Hawk College Campus. The Invasive Species Removal event is a part of River Action’s Urban Watershed Restoration project and precedes a $220,000 restoration effort that will include native plantings, a stream re-route, wetland creation, controlled burns, and trail improvements at these sites.

When: Monday September 29th 8-5 p.m.

Where: The removal will take place at both Black Hawk College and Green Valley Nature Preserve in Moline, IL. To volunteer at Black Hawk College Quad Cities Campus, park in lot #1 from 70th St or 34th St in the section designated for volunteers and follow signs to check-in. To volunteer at Green Valley, enter 60th St from John Deere Rd, park in the lot across from the ball diamonds, and sign-in at the check-in table.

Other details: Volunteers will cut invasive shrubs using loppers and handsaws. After cutting the shrub down, they will flag the location, and other volunteers will remove the debris from the site.

All volunteers should wear long pants and closed toed shoes. We recommend that volunteers bring gloves and loppers or hand-saws, but equipment will be provided for those who need it.
