Many times seniors citizens come to a point in their lives where they may not be able to care for themselves in their homes. This can be a frightening situation for the seniors and their families as well. Brookstone of Aledo and Advanced Medical Transport are hosting an educational fair at Brookstone of Aledo on September 26, 2014 from 4 - 7 p.m. Many vendors will be available to educate our elders and families on what resources are available to them in the Mercer County area. The event is a Sock Hop for Senior Education. Hamburgers, French fries and root beer floats will be served by donation from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. or while supplies last. Elvis (JR Talley) will be performing from 5 - 7 p.m. There will be a silent auction during the evening with winners being announced at 7 p.m. The community has donated several nice items for the silent auction and are looking for more donations for this event. Everyone is encouraged to dress in 50's style clothing and prizes will be awarded for the best dressed in children's, women and men categories. Knucklebusters will have classic cars present and take senior citizens on a ride through town. If you are a vendor that provides services that the elderly can benefit from and would like to reserve a booth, please contact Danise Lenz at 309-582-3902 prior to Sept. 22. Any other questions or to donate to this event, please contact Danise Lenz at Brookstoone or Lori Maynard at 309-314-5302. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Mercer County Senior Center and Mercer County Adult Day Services.
