Handel Oratorio Society to start rehearsals for A Christmas Messiah
The Handel Oratorio Society will begin rehearsals for its 134th season on October 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Centennial Hall (3703 7th Ave.) on the Augustana College campus to prepare for A Christmas Messiah, Augustana’s performance of one of the oldest holiday traditions in the Quad Cities.
Performers in the chorus and orchestra include the Handel Oratorio Society, the Augustana Choir and the Handel Oratorio Chamber Orchestra. This year’s soloists are Abigail Santos-Villalobos, soprano; Jessye Wright, mezzo-soprano; Dann Coakwell, tenor; and Mark Walters, baritone.
“We have a great group of soloists joining us for this year’s performances, and I’m looking forward to working with all of the talented musicians who take part in Messiah each year,” said Dr. Jon Hurty, Gassman Family Professor of Music and conductor of the Augustana Choir and Handel Oratorio Society.
Performances are December 13 at 8 p.m. and December 14 at 2 p.m. in Centennial Hall at Augustana College. A limited number of free tickets are available to local junior and senior high students and their families, due to a generous donation by the Meredith Foundation.
