The Mercer County Health Department (MCHD) has announced that they are experiencing a delay in the receipt of their order of influenza vaccine which was ordered in January 2014 for the 2014/2015 flu season. The vaccine shipment date has not been released to the Health Department by the vendor, therefore delaying the scheduling of fall flu clinics throughout the county.

According to MCHD Communicable Disease Prevention Coordinator, Wendy Bigham, the delay is not a problem for those still wanting to be protected during the flu season. Bigham states, “Influenza season in the United States can start as early as October and run through May. Peak flu activity typically occurs in January or later. Those at highest risk of complications should be vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available to them.”

Clinic dates and times will be posted on the Health Department’s Facebook page as soon as they scheduled. Please contact the Mercer County Health Department with any questions at 309-582-3759.
