Sean Lee to serve free Thanksgiving dinner at Milan Legion hall

A free Thanksgiving dinner for residents of Milan and surrounding communities will be served from noon to 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 27th at the American Legion, 515 W. 1st Ave., Milan.

It is Sean Lee’s birthday present.

Many people celebrate their birthday by going out to dinner. But Mr. Lee turns the table on that tradition. His birthday is Thanksgiving Day, and he celebrates by giving a free Thanksgiving Dinner to residents of Milan and surrounding communities.

“Some people need a place to go on Thanksgiving,” he says, “to enjoy dinner, meet new people, and have a good time with friends and neighbors.” He has been preparing the free holiday meal for years at various clubs in Milan. This will be his fifth year serving the traditional dinner at the Milan Legion, where he is a member of the post’s Sons of the American Legion squadron.

He will cook 16 turkeys for the main course, accompanied by all the traditional Thanksgiving trimmings, including dressing, mashed potatoes, and corn, plus a variety of side dishes; even chicken and noodles, lasagna, and pumpkin pie. Mr. Lee purchases the items from his own pocket, plus monetary donations and food from area businesses and individuals. Friends and Legion members help with meal preparation and serving. The Milan Legion donates use of their kitchen and meeting hall for his annual event.

“There is no charge, it is totally free” he stresses. adding, “everyone is welcome.”

It’s a full, traditional dinner on Thanksgiving; Sean Lee’s birthday present to the entire community.
