Galesburg Community Chorus Presents Christmas Concert
Galesburg Community Chorus will be presenting its Christmas Concert, titled The Seven Joys of Christmas, on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 7:30 pm, at First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. Featuring music for choir and a very accomplished string quartet, the program will include classical as well as festive holiday works. Some highlights include Francesco Durante’s Magnificat, Johann Pachelbel’s Nun danket alle Gott, and Kirke Mechem’s The Seven Joys of Christmas, a set of beautifully arranged Christmas Carols. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and are free for all students. They can be purchased at the door or in advance at Innkeeper’s Coffee. The concert is sponsored by Blick Art Supplies, the Galesburg Community Foundation, the City of Galesburg, and by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
The chorus will continue its 70th Anniversary Season with Verdi’s Requiem, combined with the Knox College Choir and the Monmouth College Chorale, on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Central Congregational Church.
The Galesburg Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Tim Pahel, is the oldest community music organization in the Galesburg area. It was founded in 1945 at Knox College and the chorus retains its affiliation with the college, which provides rehearsal facilities.
