Do you make the best soup in Mercer County?  Find out on Saturday, March 14, when you enter the 2015 Soup Supper Challenge.  Bring a pot of your best soup along with some friends to help serve it.  People from across the community will come to the Aledo Fire Department between 4 and 7 pm to taste a variety of soups and can vote for their favorite ones by putting donations in jars at each soup tasting station.  4-H Clubs will be bringing in soup, and other businesses and cooks are invited to do so too!

Sign up and put your recipe to the test—while you support a great cause! The entry fee for community or business is $25.  All entry fees as well as any donations received from the event will go to the three Mercer County Backpack programs.  Did you know that every Friday, the School Backpack program provides backpacks of food to school children in the 3 Mercer County School Districts who face food insecurity?  This helps to ensure that they have enough to eat over the weekend.

To Enter Your Soup in the Challenge, call Mercer County 4-H at (309) 582-5106

Call to pre-register so they can have a space for you.  Bring your entry check made payable to one of the following: MC Backpack Program (Mercer), Nourish to Flourish (Sherrard) or United Blessings in a Backpack- (United).  You should also bring along your pot of soup and serving ladle to the Aledo Fire Dept starting at 3:30 (ready to serve by 4 pm)  Mercer County 4-H will provide bowls and spoons for guests.  Winner will be determined by popular vote as indicated by donations collected from visitors to the event.  (4-H Clubs will be in a separate people’s choice from Community entries.) Winners will get bragging rights, a token prize and satisfaction of knowing they are helping kids in need!
