DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 6, 2015) – The Putnam is excited to announce the first anniversary of the Science Center! In honor of the milestone, a birthday blowUP bash will take place Saturday, April 11th during the hours of 10am to 5pm.

The Putnam Science Center is an inspiring, hands-on experience for everyone! This permanent interactive space at the Putnam is part of the Museum’s focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and supports national and statewide efforts to increase STEM skills. Using existing museum space, the center spans more than 10,000 square feet and features more than 45 hands-on stations. The "Innovation" section showcases aerospace, robotics, architecture and structure, engineering and design, and film and music areas that encourage visitors to create, imagine and innovate. The "How Things Work" section immerses visitors in concepts such as energy and simple machines, electricity and magnets, and light and sound. And many of the stations are huge, like our 25 by 13-foot-tall tug-of-war lever!

Visitors of all ages will not only learn concepts and make connections to STEM careers but will have fun together doing it!

Several activities will be available throughout the day, including:

· Giveaways: Every birthday party needs gifts! We’ll be giving away items such as Ultimate Explorer passes and memberships every hour!

· Science Demonstrations: the blowUP part of the Putnam’s Birthday Bash! Join us as we create toothpaste for elephants, light gummy bears on fire and more!

· Birthday Cake: a birthday party isn’t complete without birthday cake! We will have cake available starting at 10am until supplies last.

· Big Hero 6 3D: In celebration of National Robotics week, the Putnam will be playing Big Hero 6 3D for a limited run from 4/9-4/12!

· Alien Worlds and Androids: join scientists in their search for alien life within and beyond our solar system, discover strange alien-like creatures found here on Earth, and learn about the technologies used to explore remote solar systems and extreme environments found on Earth. Included in the search are familiar characters such as Iron Man, C3PO and more!

· Junior First Lego League Demonstrations: From 12pm to 2pm, several local junior first lego league teams will have their creations on display for all to see!

· Dino Dig: Open for the season – explore dino fossils large and small in this outdoor space.

· Computer Vision Wall - NEW responsive wall lets you interact with virtual objects.

All of these wonderful activities are included in the cost of admission or ticket packages!
