Mercer County 4-H Fishing Club starting April 25th

Do you want to learn about fishing? Join the 4-H Sport Fishing SPIN club where you’ll learn fishing and water safety, angling skills such as casting, baiting hooks, uses of different  bait and tackle, bait and equipment care, tying fishing knots and hooks,  the different characteristics of fish, importance of water quality for fish habitat, and why fishing regulations are important. The club will run every Saturday from 9 – 11 a.m. starting April 25 through May 23 at various ponds around Mercer County, IL. There first meeting will be held at Aledo Central Park on April 25th at 9 a.m. to go over the program and to get directions to the fishing locations for the other meetings.  This club is open to 10 kids ages 8 to 15. Pre-register by April 19. The fee will be $5 plus the cost of your own supplies.  There is also a $20 program fee for anyone not currently enrolled in 4-H. Join the Mercer County 4-H Goat Special Interest Club - Meets Sundays, May 17 – July 5 (Goats can be leased for $1)

Learn about goats and be able to participate in the 4-H Goat Show at the Mercer County Fair when you join this special interest club!  Participants will learn how to judge and select goats, feed and manage goats, fit and show goats.  Don't have a goat, live in town? No worries, you can lease a goat! Your leased goats will be waiting for you at the Mercer County fairgrounds each meeting.  Otherwise bring your own goat to the meetings each week.  Meetings will be held on Sundays - May 17, 31, June 7, 14, 21, and July 5, from 2 – 3:30 PM at the Mercer County Fairgrounds, Aledo, IL.  Members can then participate in the 4-H Goat Show, Mercer County Fair July 9.  There are a limited number of goats for lease, so don't delay call today!  Registration will close on May 11. Club limit is 15 youth, ages 8 to 18. Cost: 4-H members: $1 Goat Lease. Non-4-H members: $1 for Goat Lease plus $20 4-H program fee.  Call the 4-H office at (309) 582-5106.
