New Council sworn in

Aledo City council members Jay Doherty, Mike Chausse, Jim Holmes and Chris Kopp are sworn in May 4 at the Aledo City Council meeting.

The new Aledo City Council was sworn in at the May 4 council meeting. New Alderman Jim Holmes joined Jay Doherty, Mike Chausse and Chris Kopp.

The council agreed to entire a PSA Agreement with Hutchinson Engineering for the development of a Central Park Site Plan at a cost not to exceed $5,600. The council plans to spend $50,000 to renovate the park. The site plan will include Central Park, the Central Park parking lot and the grass area between Central Park and the fire station. The plans are to start moving earth after Antique Day to have everything ready for the 25th anniversary of Rhubarb Fest.

The council appointed Laurie Benson, Dennis Palmer and Charles Loveless to the Board of the Aledo Community Civic Center Authority.

The council discussed a proposed franchise agreement between the City of Aledo and the Viola Telephone Company for provision of telecommunications services. The company seeks to install infrastructure to support voice, internet and video services within the community.

Alderman Chausse thanked City Administrator Bob Mahrt for letting him know the multipurpose path is being funded by federal funds and is not subject to cancellation by the governor.
