Inmate injured at Mercer County Jail
An inmate at the Mercer County Jail in Aledo was found injured Tuesday afternoon, May 5 at about 4:30 p.m. and transferred to Genesis West with a head injury.
Mercer County Sheriff Dave Staley reported the inmate was still unresponsive Wednesday at noon.
Staley said it was not a "use of force" injury noting it wasn't something jail personnel had done. "It appears to be an accidental injury," said Staley. "It is still under investigation. We are reviewing video tape."
Staley added, "He was discovered by correctional officers on a routine round."
While the jail houses inmates from Cook County and the U.S. Marshall's Service, Staley confirmed that this was a local prisoner that was injured but he was not releasing the name at this time.
