University of Illinois Extension offers Weather Observer Class June 9 and June 23 in Milan, IL ( Teachers can get 2.5 Professional Development Hours)

Are you a weather enthusiast? Gain a better understanding of weather and learn to do some basic weather predictions from this two part class held at Rock Island County Extension, 321 W 2nd Ave., Milan, IL on Tuesday, June 9th from 1 to 4 pm and Tuesday June 23rd from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It will be led by Duane Friend, Environmental Stewardship and Energy Educator with University of Illinois Extension and Steve Hillberg, meteorologist/climatologist and recently retired as Director of the Midwestern Regional Climate Center at the Illinois State Water Survey. Lessons will include presentations AND activities in the following areas:

· What causes our seasons and violent weather

· Cloud formation, precipitation, cloud types, and predicting weather by looking at clouds

· Reading a weather map, and predicting future weather by looking at a weather map

· Climate change- how it’s predicted and what we can expect

· Training for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow (CoCoRaHS) volunteer precipitation monitoring program (June 23rd portion of class)
