4-H'ers get apple crisp ready at Farm Bureau picnic.

A large crowd arrived early Tuesday (Aug. 4) for the Mercer County Farm Bureau's Centennial Celebration Picnic at the Merchant's Building at the Mercer County Fairgrounds.

The event, from 5-7:30 p.m., was catered by A Guy and A Grill from Muscatine, Iowa. The parking area near the building was already filled with vehicles by 4:45 p.m.

For 100 years, the Mercer County Farm Bureau has “improved the economic well-being of agriculture and enriched the quality of farm family life,” according to a press release detailing the event.

There was also a bake sale, an exhibit of historical items from the Farm Bureau's Information Research Center in Bloomington and more. Members of the 4-H Federation served hamburgers, bratwurst and many other food items.

"We tried to make it special," said Mercer County Farm Bureau Manager Kendra Bolen.
