Mercer County's "Best kept secret" set to shine the spotlight on itself.

Psst. Want to know the best kept secret in Mercer County? Many people say it's the Essley Noble Museum, 1406 SE Second Ave., Aledo.

Of course, the museum board and volunteers don't want the museum to be a secret. That's why "An Evening at the Museum" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9.

"This is the first time we've ever had this at the museum," Membership Chairman and board member Linda Morrow said. "So many people say, 'I never knew this was here.' We have so much to show everyone."

The main building, machine shed and one-room schoolhouse will be open and on display during the open house. Lots of other activities are planned. There will be pump organ and Victrola music, as well as rope making. Historical artifacts and antique farm items will be on display. There will even be door prizes and finger food.
