Some of the about 100 runners in the Keithsburg Fall Festival 5K Fun Run brave a color riot.

From its technicolor fun run, to a car show, the chili cook off and more, Keithsburg showed Oct. 3 that it knows how to throw a party. The 3rd Annual Keithsburg Fall Festival will help the city continue to add new equipment to its playground.

With a swirl of blue, pink, orange and yellow powder, the 5K Fun Run began at 10:30 a.m. Wyatt Kellogg of Aledo was the first across the finish line, with Emma Peck of Ankeny, Iowa, next. Because it was a fun run, times were not kept. About 100 runners took part, along with at least one dog, Oakley, a white boxer owned by Delane Holmes of Aledo.

Automobiles ranging from Model Ts, to Corvettes and many more were displayed on Main Street. Rick Downard of Oquawka proudly showed of his 1969 Ford Torino convertible.

"I got it a year ago," Downard said. "My uncle had one just like it."

He said the car was all original, including the spare tire.

There were 11 entries in the chili cook off, while a mechanical bull and the Myrna Rae Dancer provided other entertainment. The weather cooperated and a large crowd brought the old river town to life.
