The Mercer County Board on Tuesday (Oct. 13)  approved on first reading a 2015-16 budget of just more than $10 million. The spending plan, which will now be available for public viewing, contains an estimated excess of slightly more than $175,000.

The budget will come before the board for final approval at its Nov. 3 meeting. The new fiscal year begins Dec. 1.

Among the matters addressed by the tentative budget are payments to pay off the $570,000 the county owes on a $750,000 line of credit.

"Our hope is to have that completely paid down by (the end of 2016," Finance Committee Chairman Ted Pappas said. "We've made progress."

County Clerk Phyllis Bewley said the budget will be on the county's website for those unable to make it to the courthouse.
