Smoke above a corn field from a fire south of Aledo Friday, Oct. 16.

The Aledo Fire Department was called early Friday (Oct. 16) afternoon to a field fire south of town on 205th Street. The Seaton Fire Department also responded.

Black smoke could be seen from some distance. As was the case with a fire farther south on Oct. 12, the National Weather Service had warned of fire danger because of high winds, low humidity and dry conditions. While it was not as windy Friday as on Oct. 12, west, northwest winds of 17 mph were enough to cause flames to flare.
