Aledo firefighters responded shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 15) to a mobile home fire in the Sugar Grove area, northeast of Aledo.

Assistant Fire Chief Don Korns said the building was about halfway engulfed in flames when the department arrived. He said he was on the scene until 1 a.m. Friday (Oct. 16). The woman who lived in the home was not there at the time the fire began. There were no injuries.

Korns said one end of the home burned. However, he said there was heavy smoke damage to the other end.

"My guess is it's a total loss," he said.

As to the cause, Korns said, "We're working on that with the state fire marshal."

He said it was decided it was unsafe for firefighters to look for a cause in the dark and with one end of the home destroyed by fire.

"I guess we'll probably go back on Monday and dig through the ashes to try to determine a cause," Korns said.

He added that, for insurance purposes, "We have an obligation to try to find a cause and a place of origin."
