The District 404 Board of Education will have a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. A discussion of the superintendent search is the only item on the agenda, with the exception of the time set aside for public comment.

During its Oct. 14 meeting, the board agreed to Oct. 28 as the time to meet with Tom Leahy, a consultant with the Illinois Assocation of School Boards. Leahy's is expected to meet with the board for about an hour following an meeting earlier that evening with the school board in Orion.

Former Superintendent Alan Boucher left at the end of September to become the superintendent in Sherrard District 200. Dr. Jane Eichman is the current interim superintendent. In March, Bill Rees will take over.

The board's tentative timeline for finding a new superintendent includes a Dec. 1 deadline for applications, interviews with finalists the second week of January, with the goal of hiring someone by the February board meeting. The person hired would assume his or her new duties on July 1, 2016.
