ALEXIS — Mayor Dale Oberhaus told members of the Alexis Village Board on Monday, Nov. 9, that the village now has the title and ownership of the former Dahl building on Main Street. It has been vacant for many years.

Zach Page of Page Excavation in Rio will begin demolition of the building in the near future. Oberhaus said that, “Due to the condition of the brick building and its proximity to apartments next door, they will take their time in tearing it down.” The cost of the demolition is $16,500.

In other business, resident Julie Corben was present to complain of persons “burning leaves after sunset.” A village ordinance states that burning is not allowed one hour prior to sunset. Police Chief Greg Toland, who was present, said several citations had been issued recently for illegal burning. Corben was told of the proper procedures to report offenders.

Trustee Rick Edwards is leaving the board.

“This is my last meeting. I will be moving out of the town before the next meeting in December,”  Edwards said.

Board members discussed possible replacements and procedures for naming one. Edwards has served on the board for four years.
