Mercer County High School's Music Theory Class will present its fall blues concert at 7 p.m., Nov. 19 in the high school auditorium. Admission is by donation.

Rusty Ruggles, the band director at MCHS, said there are seven students in this year's Music Theory class.

"We teach them the language of music," Ruggles said. "These concerts and the things that we do are kind of our textbooks."

He said this is the first time he's tried a blues concert. Traditional and modern blues will be performed.

"I'm a big blues fan and have been for a long time," Ruggles said. "Each kid gets to pick a song, then I picked one."

He picked four more songs to round out the program. The music of Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, CCR, Robert Cray, Joe Bonamassa, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Johnson and many more will be played. Ruggles said "Sweet Home Chicago" is one song on the play list.

"Everyone needs to know 'Sweet Home Chicago,'" he said. "We try to teach them some of the licks."
