Wednesday's girls basketball game between the Mercer County Golden Eagles and the Galva Wildcats was everything one would want in a conference match up. In the end, Mercer County was victorious, 40-34 in Lincoln Trail Conference play.

The contest featured tough defense and lots of shooting but the game was low scoring until the second half. The Golden Eagles managed only three points in the second quarter.  At the end of the first quarter the score was all knotted at 8 each, but in the second quarter Galva had the upper hand and a comfortable 17-11 lead at the half.

The Eagles clawed their way back into the contest in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 14-10 to get with 27-25.. In the final quarter, the Eagles aimed control by turning up the defensive pressure and knocking down some clutch free throws. Top scorer for the game was junior Kenzie Baker, who notched 19 points followed by classmate Ellie Lower with 8. Lower was 5-6 from the charity stripe.
