   Monday's (Jan. 11) Lincoln Trail Conference basketball game between the Ridgewood Spartans and the Mercer County Golden Eagles was a tough battle early with the Eagles holding a slight advantage 19-16, after the first quarter. The Eagles extended their lead and won, 61-44.

Ridgewood made a run in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles, 15-11, to cut the deficit to nine. But, the Eagles slammed the door shut in the fourth quarter with an 18-10 run. Mercer County had a team effort in scoring with Emily Weeks having 2 points, Alyssa Hess and Ellie Lower chipping in nine points apiece. Three of the Eagles hit double figures, with Josie Finch knocking down 10 points, and freshmen center Dani Hagens tossing in 12.  Junior forward Kenzie Baker led all scorers with 19 points. The Eagles now stand at 2-3 in conference play and 8-10 overall. Next up for the Golden Eagles is the LTC Conference Tourney at Annawan.
