Aledo City Council set to honor woman who was first female mayor of the city

The Aledo City Council is scheduled to approve an agreement at its meeting today for the Aledo Police Department to participate in the Henry and Mercer County Investigative Task Force.

The Committee of the Whole meeting begins at 6:15 p.m., with the council meeting scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers of City Hall, 120 N. College Ave.

Other items on the agenda include approving an agreement with Missman Inc. for design and planning services for the intersection construction project downtown, as well as an update on the Buttonwood Trails property tax apparel.

During the Committee of the Whole meeting, Mayor Chris Hagloch is scheduled to issue a proclamation honoring Ethel "Tommy" Greer on the occasion of her 100th birthday. Greer turned 100 Monday, Jan. 18.

As well as being a businesswoman in Aledo, Greer served on the City Council for 24 years and was mayor pro-tem after the death of Tom Reay, becoming the first woman to serve as the city's mayor.
