Hannah Callahan, 4, and Josie Finch, 24, of Mercer County await a rebound in first quarter action Monday night against the Wethersfield Flying Geese.

The Monday (Jan. 18)  Lincoln Trail Conference Tourney game between the Wethersfield Flying Geese and the Mercer County Golden Eagles went much like their first meeting on Dec. 7 with the Geese flying much higher than the Eagles.  Wethersfield took the tourney win, 55-39.

The girls from south Kewanee outscored the Golden Eagles 11-4 in the first quarter and continued to dominate in the second to end the first half up double digits 26-14. The Mercer County five couldn't gain any ground on the Geese in the third quarter as Wethersfield was lights out shooting 3-point goals. The only bright spot for the Eagles was in the fourth quarter when they outscored Wethersfield 12-7, but it was too little, too late.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was Kenzie Baker with 11 points, followed by Josie Finch with nine and Dani Hagens, seven. With the loss Mercer County drops to 0-2 in tourney pool play in the tournament and takes on ROWVA Wednesday night at Kewanee Wethersfield at 7:30 p.m.
