Harlan, Lee win nominations

Meeghan Lee easily won the Democratic nomination for state's attorney Tuesday, March 15. She won 1,220 votes compared to 537 from Michael Wassell.

In the race to the candidate to run against Democratic incumbent Cheri Bustos in the 17th Congressional District, Patrick Harlan of Abingdon won the nomination with 75.7 percent of the vote. Jack Boccarossa received 24.3 percent.

Although Donald Trump won in Illinois, he finished second in Mercer County. Unofficial totals showed Ted Cruz with 1,073 votes in the county with Trump second with 920.

Hillary Clinton received 869 votes in the Democratic primary in Mercer County, while Bernie Sanders garnered 802.
