Eight appear in court on drug-related charges

Eight people appeared today (Thursday) in Mercer County Circuit Court on drug-related charges. Seven were arrested March 22 in Keithsburg after the Mercer County Sheriff's Department and the Keithsburg Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in Keithsburg.

All defendants appeared by video before Judge Richard Zimmer.

Bond was set at $100,000 for two defendants; Steven Adams, 24, Keithsburg, and Gordon Crook, 23, New Boston. Adams is charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of meth, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of cannabis. Crook faces the same charges.

Also appearing were Brittany Shoemaker, 18, New Boston; Brandon Morrison, 25, New Boston; Saharra Rodriguez, 19, Muscatine, Iowa; Michael Holmes, 20, Andalusia, and Jacob Howerton, 25, Muscatine.

All face charges of unlawful possession of meth with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of meth, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of cannabis. Bond was set at $50,000 for Morrison and Howerton, and at $25,000 for Shoemaker, Holmes and Rodriguez.

Erick Sessions was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the March 22 incident. He is also facing charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and a warrant to revoke his 30-month probation for an earlier conviction of unlawful possession of meth. The charge for which he is on probation carries a possible maximum penalty of 3 to 7 years in prison if his probation is revoked. His total bond was set at $15,000.

Sessions was not arrested at the same time as the other seven defendants.

Public defenders were appointed for all the defendants. All are due back in court Monday for status hearings, at which time preliminary hearing dates will be set.
