ALEDO — For 4-H members, the county fair is a rite of passage offering a great opportunity for them to showcase their hard work as they exhibit general projects and participate in livestock shows.

The Mercer County Fair opened Monday with General Projects Conference Judging.  This is where 4-H members enter projects in over 100 different categories, from baking and horticulture to rockets, visual arts, woodworking, electricity and so many more.  Members have set up booths to display their projects after judging throughout the week of the fair.

Livestock shows began Tuesday. Today began with Dog Obedience & Showmanship, the Beef Show; 4-H members participate in Ag Olympics later in the day where they get to have some fun together playing a variety of games in the show ring.

On Thursday, the 4-H Goat Show and Swine Shows are both at 9 a.m. and the Jr. and Sr. Master Showmanship Contest is at 4 p.m.

The Dairy Show is at 9 a.m. Friday and the Mercer County Youth Livestock Auction is at 6 p.m.

The 4-H schedule and all Mercer County Fair events can be found online at www.mercercountyfair.org. The fairgrounds are at 848 170th St., Aledo.
