New Mercer County assistant state's attorney sworn in

ALEDO — Matthew Voigts, formerly of Galesburg, was sworn in July 11 as Mercer County assistant state’s attorney by Judge Richard Zimmer.
Voigts is a native of Cornell and received his law degree from Southern Illinois University in December 2014 and his bachelor’s degree in 2012 from Southern Illinois University. He practiced both civil and criminal law at Barash and Everett, Galesburg from February to May 2016.
While in law school he served an internship for nine months with the federal public defender’s office in Rock Island County and another nine months with Williamson County’s public defender office.
He married his wife Amanda in September 2015.
