Conducting an analysis of the Galesburg transportation system received a $150,000 boost from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

According to a press release on the city's website, the two-year grant will be used to analyze demand, conduct a passenger use survey, and assess opportunities for expansion and collaboration.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to conduct a comprehensive review of our public transportation system,” said Kraig Boynton, Transit Manager, in the news release. “The insights and in-depth analysis ascertained by the consultant will provide the City and IDOT with the needed information to make informed decisions, and successfully plan for the future of public transportation in Galesburg.”

The city applied for the grant in 2022 and was notified in January 2023 of the award.

The City of Galesburg Transit operates four fixed bus routes within Galesburg City limits.
