Man dies in crash between motorcycle and car in Peoria County

MAPLETON − A man died Wednesday after his motorcycle was struck by a passenger car in southern Peoria County, the Sheriff's Office said.

Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins said deputies were sent to the 10000 block of Lancaster Road on a report of a traffic accident. The car was headed east on Lancaster and was turning left into a parking lot when it struck the motorcycle which was going west.

The 40-year-old motorcyclist was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Watkins said the 54-year-old woman who was driving the car was ticketed for improper left turn into oncoming traffic.

The accident is still under investigation by Peoria County Sheriff's Office. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Peoria County coroner, pending notifications.
