MAPLETON − A 40-year-old Mapleton man was identified as the victim in a fatal accident involving a car and motorcycle Wednesday night, the Peoria County Coroner said.

William Garrett, who lived in the Lake Camelot subdivision, was about a mile from his home at the time of the accident which occurred at about 8:36 p.m. Wednesday. Coroner Jamie Harwood said an autopsy indicated he suffered "multiple blunt force trauma injuries throughout his body that were incompatible with life."

According to a report from the Peoria County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to the 10000 block of Lancaster Road on a report of a traffic accident. The car was headed east on Lancaster and was turning left into a parking lot when it struck the motorcycle which was going west.

When deputies arrived, Garrett was "conscious, alert, and breathing," the report said. LifeFlight had been notified and Garrett was taken to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center where he later died shortly before midnight.
