Crime Stoppers elect new board members

Mercer County Crime Stoppers meeting held Aug. 26 and elected two new board members -- Joelene Boelens of Aledo and Jill C. Henry of Viola. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer organization that helps law enforcement in solving crime at no additional cost to the taxpayers.

Should one see a crime being committed they can call 1-309-582-3500 or 1-800-2762 they do not have to reveal their name, but are issued a code number and if a crime is solved due to their report. They are paid a reward up to $1,000 in a confidential manner. Two calls were received this month and one code number issued.

Fund-raisers are held throughout the year to make reward money. A golf tournament is held annually with the Fraternal Order of police and the group also sells a limited number of raffle tickets each year for a fifty-fifty drawing, held each month throughout the year.

Carroll Reid, chairman of the by-laws, prepared an amendment to the by-laws in regard to number of members to the board to be voted on next meeting, Sept. 23, 2008.
