Burglary/theft sentences given

Jeremiah C. Thurman, 25, of Monmouth, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony and one count of theft, a Class 3 felony in Mercer County Court on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. A plea agreement was reached in the case, that dismissed two other counts filed against him.

He received a sentence of five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the burglary charge, which took place on or about July 10, 2008 in Mercer County, where Thurman entered a building owned by Dudley Fowler in rural Mercer County with the intent to commit theft.

Thurman received two years in DOC for the theft charge, which also took place on July 10, 2008 at the Ohio Grove Township shed. Thurman took unauthorized control over a chain saw, three gas cans, wheel weights and grader blades, with a value of more than $300.

The sentences will be served concurrently and he was given credit for 111 days served. He was also ordered to pay court costs and restitution of $866.10 and $1,036.17.
