One dead after crash on I-74 near Knoxville

One person was killed after a two-vehicle crash Thursday night , March 26, on I-74 two miles east of Knoxville.

A Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Richard L. Hocker, 61, of Alexis, was traveling in the left lane of West bound I-74. A Chevrolet four-door car driven by Stefan N. Golden, 19, of Monmouth was traveling at a higher rate of speed in the left lane and came upon the Avalanche. The four-door car attempted to pass the Avalanche on the right and struck the Avalanche. The Avalanche lost control and crossed into the center median and rolled. Hocker was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Hocker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas.

Golden was charged with improper lane usage and driving an uninsured motor. Alcohol is not suspected to be involved at this time.
