Mercer County is joining in a benefit fund-raiser for Dylan Hoffman of Sherrard, 18, who died in a tragic accident Sunday, Sept. 26 and Alex Williams of Matherville, 16, who was also injured in the accident.

Sherrard's All School Senate President Comille Heiar is one of the organizers of the Sherrard fund-raiser that created special T-shirts honoring Hoffman.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the families and/or purchase a T-shirt can do so Friday night, Oct. 1, at the Mercer County homecoming football game. There will be a table set up outside the Spirit Shop. Order forms for T-shirts will also be available in the MCHS office on Thursday and Friday this week.

"We plan on going through with buckets to raise funds for the boys," said Kim Lloyd, a Mercer County High School booster club member. She said the school districts are close, and the kids do intermingle. The boosters wanted to show support for the two families affected by the tragedy.

Sherrard students have been going through their own grieving process, starting Monday, the day after the accident, holding a vigil for Hoffman.

All week orders were being taken at Sherrard selling black T-shirts with Hoffman's last name and #25 on the back.

At Wednesday evening's volleyball game the Tiger girls decided to give all that night's proceeds to the Hoffman family, either for medical bills or for their memorial. T-shirts can be ordered at the Sherrard High School office through Friday.

"Our student body has come together a lot and helped each other through the grieving process and to stay strong," said Heiar.

"It's not a goodbye it's a see you later" is the slogan on the front of the shirt.
