Mercer County Sheriff Tom Thompson (D) was reelected sheriff in Mercer County defeating rivals Tom Nelson (I) and Jason Soseman (R).

Thompson had 3,030 votes to 1,861 by Nelson and 1,804 by Soseman.

Thompson and Nelson met at the courthouse Tuesday night with Nelson congratulating Thompson on the victory.

"I worked hard and ran a good clean campaign," said Nelson. "I've got nothing to hang my head about. I wish Tom (Thompson) the best."

Nelson said he plans to go back to enjoying retirement. "I'd like to thank everyone who helped me with my campaign."

"I'll be thanking a lot of people over the next few days," said Thompson. "It's an honor to continue to serve as sheriff. That's what I've been doing for four years and that's what I'll continue to do for the next four years."
