Judge James G. Conway, Jr. announced Tuesday Feb. 1, 2011 that the Mercer County Courthouse will be closed Wednesday, due to the incoming storm.

All scheduled court cases will be rescheduled to a later date.

Stewarts' meth case continued

Several of Tuesday's cases were continued, including an arraignment hearing for James Stewart, 58,  and Cindy Stewart, 54, currently being  held in Mercer County Jail. Each was charged with a Class X felony -- aggravated unlawful participation in methamphetamine production, manufacturing less than 15 grams; and a Class 1 felony  --  possession of anhydrous ammonia with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

The Stewarts were contacted by phone at the Mercer County Jail from Judge Conway's chambers, with the presence of court officials, State's Attorney Gregory McHugh and the two defendant's attorneys, Dan Dalton and Katherine Drummond.

The state wanted to continue the case, due to the weather. The Stewart's agreed via phone to the continuance. The next hearing has been set for Feb. 15 at 11:30 a.m..

During the phone hearing, James Stewart asked about a bond reduction. Judge Conway said that issue would be ruled on Feb. 15,  He asked the defense attorneys to file a written motion.

Bond until then, remains at $100,000 for Jim Stewart and $75,000 for Cindy Stewart, 10 percent to apply.
