Springfield man charged with reckless homicide

Joseph D. Miller of Springfield, 57, appeared in Mercer County Court today, May 12, 2011, to answer to a charges resulting in the death of Garrett W. Mooberry after an accident on Ill. Hwy 17 on Feb. 15, 2011 near Viola.

Miller was charged with two counts of aggravated driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, class 2 felonies, and a third count of reckless homicide, a special class 3 felony.

The charging information states that Miller was under the influence of a combination of methadone, benzodizopine and cannabis, as well as unintentionally causing the death of Mooberry by reckless driving.

A preliminary hearing on the charges will be held June 7 at 9:30 a.m.
