Juvenile fight hands felony charges to one
Judge Greg Chickris heard testimony Tuesday, June 7, about a fight that occured on May 29 at the Jaycee Park in Aledo shortly after sunset.
Officer Shay Litwiler was sworn in and testified he was on duty May 29, 2011 when he received a call at 9 p.m. of a probable assault victim at the Mercer County Hospital. The victim, along with his mother and a younger sister were there, with Litwiler noticing extensive swelling to the left side of the youth's face.
The officer interviewed the victim and found out about a verbal altercation that turned physical on the NE part of Aledo, The victim approached a vehicle, had some words and started to walk away, when the alleged attacker got out of the car and punched him to the ground and continued to beat on him. There were a number of witnesses that Litwiler interviewed besides the victim, mostly corroborating the victim's story.
The assailant was approached by the officer on his front porch, was handcuffed and taken to the sheriff's office to be interviewed. He talked to the officer about a "fire incident" at his home earlier that day.
Officer Litwiler interviewed a number of individuals about this incident.
Judge Chickris decided there was enough evidence to hold the juvenile to answer to the charges.
An arraignment was waived by the defendant, who pled not guilty to the charges. A pre-trial conference will be held on this matter at 10:30 a.m. on July 11, with the jury trial set for July 25, 2011 at 9 a.m.
