Askew and Simpson each receive $500 from the Jack L. Palmer Trust

Ms. Dorothy Palmer Unsworth established the trust fund in 2004 in honor and memory of her late husband, Jack L. Palmer. Mr. Palmer began his career in 1982 with the Mercer County Police Auxiliary. He served the communities of New Windsor, Matherville and Frye Lake as a police officer. He was assistant chief of police for the Village of Viola until his death in 2001.

Brian Simpson just graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb. He is currently doing his internship with the Mercer County Sheriff's Department. Brian wants to "protect and serve" keeping a community, a community.

Brandon Askew received his Associates in Arts degree from Black Hawk College, and is currently attending Western Illinois University in Moline. He has a 3.5 GPA while working full time and being a full time student. Upon completion, he will have his Bachelor of Arts degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration and a minor in Communications. He hopes to follow his father and his uncle into law enforcement.
