The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department has been made aware that suspects unknown have been attempting to collect money using the Sheriff’s Department phone number. The caller claims to represent Mercer County and gives the Sheriff’s Department address when pressed for details. The caller had a heavy Middle Eastern accent and wanted the residents address. When pressed further by the resident the caller then hung up.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind all of our residents that we as a department will not call nor ever attempt to collect any moneys from you by phone. Any collections of money are handles through standard court proceedings. If you feel you have been a victim of a deception type theft the Sheriff’s Department asks that you report it immediately at (309) 582-5194. Thank you.

On February 23, Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies served an arrest warrant. 20 year old Jerrold Scott Wakeland Jr., of Little York, was extradited from the Warren County Jail in Monmouth on 2 Mercer County Warrants for Failure to Appear. Wakeland was transported to the Mercer County Jail where he remains in custody on $8,000.00 bond.

On February 23, Mercer County Deputies responded to a Domestic dispute in New Windsor. Upon further investigation 40 year Erik K. Detamore of New Windsor was arrested for Domestic Battery. Detamore was transported to the Mercer County Jail. Detamore is currently incarcerated and awaiting initial Court appearance.

On February 22, Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies served an arrest warrant. 23 year old Cydney Shae Brasher, OF Sherrard, was extradited from the Rock Island County Jail on 2 Mercer County Warrants for Failure to Appear. Brasher was transported to the Mercer County Jail, where she remains in custody on $6,000.00 bond.

On 2/20/2017 Mercer County Deputies transported Danny Dickenson of Oquawka from the Henderson County Jail to the Mercer County Jail. Dickenson was arrested on Mercer County Warrant for failing to appear for Domestic Battery. He remains in the Mercer County Jail on $3,000.00 10% bond.

On 2/20/17 Mercer County Deputies transported Kendale Turner of Davenport, IA from the Knox County Jail to the Mercer County Jail. Kendale was arrested on a Mercer County Warrant for Retail Theft. He remains in the Mercer County Jail on a bond of $20,000.00 10% through Mercer County and a bond of $10,000.00 through Scott County.

On 2/20/17 Mercer County Deputies responded to a single vehicle accident on 170th Avenue in rural Sherrard. The vehicle had struck a power pole. Sherrard Fire and AMT were also on scene to assist. The driver was later taken to the hospital.

On February 25th, Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies received a complaint of suspended drivers approaching Aledo traveling together in two separate vehicles. An Aledo officer was able to locate one of the suspect vehicles and attempted to stop it. The vehicle continued driving a distance and stopped at a residence in Aledo. The driver was Trevor Shoemaker of New Boston. Shoemaker’s Illinois driver’s license was suspended. Shoemaker was charged with fleeing and eluding police, driving while suspended, unlawful use of weapon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several traffic citations were issued. Shoemaker was transported to the Mercer County Jail, where he is held awaiting his first appearance in court. Review of dash cam video revealed the other reported driver exiting the driver’s side of the vehicle he was described as driving at near the same residence Shoemaker was arrested at. This individual, Chad Huston, of New Boston was located and arrested on several Warrants out of Muscatine County, Iowa as well as driving while license suspended. Huston was transported to the Mercer County Jail where is held awaiting bond.
