HOME INVASION AND BEATING OF A SENIOR JOY RESIDENT BEING INVESTIGATED

The Mercer County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion and residential burglary in the Northwest portion of Mercer County. At approximately 3:00 p.m. yesterday, Deputies responded to a 911 call indicating that 83 year old Fred Rooth of Joy had possibly been attacked in his home. Mr. Rooth was transported to the hospital by Genesis ambulance. The investigation shows that Mr. Rooth was beaten and several items were removed from his residence.

Authorites are searching for a residential safe and other items. Anyone in northwestern Mercer or Southwestern Rock Island counties who may have noticed any suspicious activity over this past weekend are encouraged to report it to the Mercer County Sheriff's Office at 309-582-5194.
