GALESBURG — Over $1,000 in cash was reportedly taken in the burglary of a southeastern Galesburg tavern Sunday morning.

Police were called to The Store, 497 E. Berrien St., at 10:47 a.m. where the owner said the theft took place at some point after the bar closed at 2 a.m. He said that $1,334 in cash had been in a bag in a cupboard, with only employees knowing the location.

Security footage shows that all employees and customers were out of the building by 2:20 a.m., and at 3:05 a.m. a subject forces open a window to gain entry to the building. The owner told officers he believed the window had not been left properly locked.

The masked, male subject went straight to the cash register, prying it open, before searching the cupboards and off-camera areas of the bar, finding the money before departing.

There were no suspects at the time of the police report.
