Sara Ausmus of Aledo received The Legacy of Leadership Scholarship and The Illinois Farm Bureau & Affiliates Premiere 20 Award. These awards were given during the Illinois State Fair.

The Legacy of Leadership Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior or a student of an approved post-high school educational program. The applicant must have been enrolled in 4-H for a minimum of five years. The Illinois 4-H Foundation and the State 4-H Office award $1,000 scholarships to the recipients. Following an application procedure, top candidates participate in an interview procedure to be determined by the State 4-H Office.

The Premiere 20 Award included participation in the Illinois Farm Bureau & Affiliates Premier 20 Leadership Conference, which was held in Bloomington. Outstanding 4-H and FFA members participated in various leadership and personal development sessions sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau, The IAA Credit Union and University of Illinois, Extension. Courses included understanding group leadership problems, team leadership/management, discussion techniques, understanding and dealing with diversity, as well as goal and action plan development.

Ausmus was invited to participate in the conference through her participation in the 4-H LCP Award Program. The 4-H LCP Award recognizes 4-H members' leadership, citizenship and professionalism within the 4-H program, school and community.

The award and conference are sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau, GROWMARK, Inc., COUNTRY Financial, Prairie Farms Dairy, and IAA Credit Union.

Sara is the daughter of Steve and Cara Ausmus of Aledo. She is a member of the Sunton Achiever's 4-H Club.
