Aledo School board securing bids for new gym floor, bleachers

The Aledo School board is starting to accept bids for a new floor and bleachers at the high school gym. Aledo Superintendent Alan Boucher hopes the project can be accomplished for $250,000.

"The bleachers and floor are original to the building which was built in 1953," said Boucher. Boucher said the two projects will be bid separately and the purchase and installation of new bleachers may be held off.

"We are committed to replacing the floor and hopefully the bleachers too," said Boucher. "We hope to complete the project over the summer." It will take 13 weeks to complete the gym floor. We will start the day after graduation. They will be complete by the start of volleyball season.

Camps over the summer may be moved to the junior high building in Aledo or the Westmer building in Joy since the consolidated district will begin next year.

The board voted to move ahead with the Foundation for Education. Provisions had been made prior to the consolidation of the two districts.

Boucher said the new school board hasn't met yet and must decide a name and a mascot. The district will receive a new number from the Regional Office of Education. The current districts are 201 and 203. Boucher said it would be symbolic of the coming together of the two schools if the new district's number was 202 but was uncertain if that number was available.
